Salt Spring Public Indigenous Coordinator: Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Indigenous Coordinator provides leadership in the development and incorporation of diverse Indigenous perspectives into Library operations, including development of best practices, professional ethics, and competencies surrounding the provision of Indigenous content related services, collections and facilities. The candidate also contributes to Indigenization plans, initiatives and activities, through the development of relationships with internal and external individuals, groups and organizations. Other duties include reference, collection development, liaison with Indigenous teachers and students, and professional development.
Indigenous Learning Area: The Salt Spring Island Public Library is developing an Indigenous Learning Area to house the Indigenous Collection, to showcase Indigenous Art, to welcome Indigenous patrons, and to encourage everyone to learn and become a part of reconciliation. The official opening will be early 2024, currently the area is open and the Indigenous Collection is available for patrons to peruse.
