The
Salt Spring Island Historical Society
presents
Rev. Edward Francis Wilson
On May 14, 2014, at Central Hall, 2:00 PM, Usha Rautenbach will be giving a presentation for the Salt Spring Island Historical Society based on her recent research into Reverend E. F. Wilson. The subject will be his dramatic midlife re-evaluation of past work with first nations people; a profound insight gained long before he came to Salt Spring in 1894.
Freed by anonymity, writing under the pseudonym ‘Fair Play’, the Reverend Wilson expressed what he really felt, and what he thought of others. It is startling, eye-opening writing! One hundred-and-twenty years later, with the Truth and Reconciliation Committee hearing from residential school survivors, it is riveting to hear a voice like his – especially considering the stance he’d held before, as founder of one of the first residential schools.
Wednesday May 14, at 2 PM, Central Hall.
