Salt Spring Historical Society Archives
Information Providers/Office Help/Computer Volunteers

Salt Spring Historical Society Archives is looking for new volunteers. No experience is required as training and mentorship will be provided; however, an interest in local history could be helpful. Any skill or talent will be appreciated.

The Archives require volunteers who can work in the Archives or from home in any of the following capacities

to perform clerical duties, such as filing, sorting cataloging
to assist in hospitality at meetings and interviews,
to interview seniors and record their stories,
to translate historical letters and documents,
to answer patron requests and assist reseachers to find relevant materials,
to help to identify old photographs, or solve historical mysteries,
to work from home to fulfill requests from the public via the internet,
to scan photos and documents and post the images online,
to digitize audio or video tapes,
to use artistic talents to help create displays or presentations,
to archive donated material

If you can help with any or all of these tasks we would love to hear from you. The Archives office is located in Salt Spring Public Library in Ganges.

The mandate of the Salt Spring Historical Society Archives is to collect and preserve archival materials that illustrate the growth and development of Salt Spring Island or that pertain, in whole or in part, to activities within the boundaries of the Salt Spring Island Local Trust area.  These are great opportunities to make a wonderful contribution to this community’s preservation of its history, and acquire new skills.
