Maude Family Home on Mayne Island
Before moving to Salt Spring Island, Captain George
Maude’s his family lived on Mayne Island.
The property was named ‘Point Comfort’ Captain Maude’s
parents went to Mayne Island in 1900, from Duncan, travelling in an old
sloop found on the beach and fixed up by Mr Maude. They wanted an
Island with a church and Mayne had one. They lived first at Miners Bay
in a very tall white house which is still there and which they ran as a
grocery store. Then they bought the hotel at Point Comfort. Mrs Maude
had signed a pledge not to have a bar, so they had paying guests only.
They held famous dances and balls, there.
