Bittancourt Store (c1907) (Jessie Toynbee)
Abraham Reid Bittancourt built his home and store in 1904, at the foot
of Ganges Hill. In 1910, the store business was sold to Mouat Bros. The
space it occupied was later used as a meeting place for Ganges Methodists;
office for Canada Customs; police station, jail and magistrates court
for the Island. From 1945-1965 it was office and nursing home for Dr Arnold
Francis, after which it was demolished.
