Subject: Maurice Trevor Myles

I wonder if you have any information on this man who lived in Ganges before joining the army. He was killed in 1917 and his name is on your War Memorial.

Interestingly, he also appears on the Honour Roll of St John's Church, Sardis despite having no apparent connection to Sardis or Chilliwack. I am trying to establish what that connection might have been.

As you can see from below he had a very interesting ancestry being a direct descendant of Edward lll

This is what I know and I'd be grateful for any insights you can offer:

The Archives says

Private Maurice Trevor Myles
April 20, 1917
3rd Battalion, Canadian Pioneers
Service Number: 180508
Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France
Son of Edmond Henry and Alice Caroline Myles

Not confirmed. However the honour roll at St. John’s Anglican Church, Sardis records this name though the second initial is either “T, I or F”. No other details known. The above named solider was living at Ganges, Salt Spring Island at the time of his attestation December 15, 1915. His family is recorded as Major Edmund Myles, Royal Army Medical Corps and Alice Caroline Myles.

However, his attestation records show his next of kin in London, England, he was born in Bombay India and living in Ganges, Saltspring Island, occupation Rancher

His father was a Major in the Medical Corps (RAMC).

His religion was listed as Church of England.

His name is on the War Memorial on Saltspring.
So why is he on St John's Honour Roll?

So, no obvious connection with St John's or with Sardis/Chilliwack. Could his father have been posted here, girl friend, fiance?

What is really fascinating is that I know a whole load of other info on this man. Without boring with detail I find he is, amazingly, a direct descendant of Edward lll (see below)
