Downtown Ganges

Construction of Bens’ Lucky Dollar Store, later the K & R building, which is now Mouats Clothing, etc. and that series is alongside Ganges Harbour south side.

The K & R was totally renovated in 1989 to its present form . When built in 1970 the structure was built to accommodate 2 floors and the 2nd floor was put in at time of renovation.

Note that the building immediately to the right of the K & R building, is the White Elephant Cafe -- seldom referred to in discussions of Ganges. It was operated in the 50s and 60s by Mary Fellows.

And before it was the White Elephant Cafe it was Turner’s Store (selling mainly what may be referred to as “dry goods”). They (Turner’s store) relocated later to a building adjacent to where the downtown Pharmasave is now.
